Build Widgets
Can't find the Widget you want? Build it. Widgets are small React components that you write in the Widget Studio, right in the Console. Publish one and anyone can add it to their Frame, or keep it to yourself as a Private Widget.
What you need
- A computer. The Widget Studio needs a desktop browser.
- Some React and JavaScript. TypeScript is supported, and recommended.
- Tailwind CSS helps, since Widgets are styled with it.
You don't need to install anything. The Widget Studio has a code editor with auto-complete, a live preview, and the Blotch Library of hooks and components ready to import.
Where to start
- New to Widgets? Build your first Widget walks you from an empty Widget to one on your Frame.
- Want to understand the platform? How Widgets run explains how a Widget becomes an image on an e-ink screen, and what that means for your code.
- Have a task in mind? The guides cover common jobs, such as fetching data from an API, letting people set up your Widget and designing for every size.
- Looking something up? The reference covers the Widget Studio, Input types and every hook and component in the Blotch Library.
